The Borg mashup was one of the defining image jokes of the early consumer internet: take a corporate figure, add implants, and let the collective's catchphrase about resistance do the rest. It worked because the metaphor was already halfway built — a company accused of absorbing every competitor and standardising every desktop was a gift to anyone with a photo editor.
The genre tells you more about the period than about its target. Software rivalry was followed as a spectator sport, the tools to composite a face onto a costume had just reached hobbyists, and forums rewarded the version that was cleanest rather than the funniest idea. Most of these composites were unsigned and were re-saved until the edges turned to mush. This entry is kept as a record of that form.
